Why a Socialist Education Project?

Marxism is as relevant in the 21st century as in the past. Financialization and corporate globalization enabled giant capitalist multinational corporations and a handful of banks and investment houses to grab record profits while exploiting huge numbers of workers. The collapse of the housing market led to the tumbling of the speculative virtual economy in 2008 and the current economic crisis. With the current failure of the capitalist neoliberal system, more and more people both in the left and in US society are again interested in radical alternatives.

Everywhere, people resist under the banner "a better world is possible.' But what does that better world look like? Many progressives have that question. The historical perspective and logical methods worked out by Marx and Engels and further developed by subsequent theorists and activists still provide an answer: socialism. The Socialist Education Project is meant to provide resources to help people's understanding and inform their practice to move that better world closer. Our feature article is a new perspective on socialism for the 21st century by Carl Davidson. We invite your comments.
